Historic District
History &
Charm.
Downtown’s Historic District has been the center of finance and industry in San Jose for more than 100 years.
Boasting entertainment of all stripes, shopping, and a dazzling array of restaurants and coffee shops that's all within a few blocks.
Noteworthy for both history and architecture, the district includes buildings dating from the 1870s to modern high-rise condos of glass and steel.
The Historic District may have beautiful buildings, but what makes it unique are the businesses lining the streets. Hungry – for a Brazilian steakhouse? High tea with crumpets? Vegan “chicken”? Authentic Oaxacan cuisine? Maybe just a burger and fries? It can all be found here.

It’s not just restaurants that make the Historic District so special. Entertainment offerings run the gamut from upscale wine bar to small dive bar and dance club to sake bar. Time for a laugh? Try The Improv in the beautifully restored Jose Theater. Visitors can also hunt for treasure – or clothes, or shoes – in some of downtown’s best shopping.
