Route 87 HOV Lanes Project

Due to the project to add HOV lanes to northbound Route 87, only the Downtown Connector from south of I-280 to Julian Street is open.
The northbound ramp to Highway 87 from Park Avenue is closed.
The connector is on the east side of the mainline of Highway 87.
Expect added congestion and possible delays during the morning commute into and through downtown. Downtown traffic headed northbound will detour on northbound Almaden Boulevard and take the Notre Dame Street ramp onto 87.
To get downtown from I-280, take the 7th Street, 11th Street, Almaden and Bird exits.

Guadalupe River Park Trail now open

The lower trail along the eastside of the Guadalupe River is now open.  Due to construction activities, the upper eastside trail will not reopen until project completion in late Spring 2007.  Temporary, day-long closures of the lower trail may be required to maintain public safety during some limited construction activities on the SR 87 bridge overhead.  Upper path opening is expected spring 2007

Light Rail changes

Due to Route 87 construction, southbound to Santa Teresa, light rail trains will intermittently run on the northbound to Alum Rock tracks.  Southbound to Santa Teresa passengers must board light rail on the northbound to Alum Rock platform.  Please pay attention to the train’s destination sign before boarding.  Only passengers boarding at the Children’s Discovery Museum Station heading southbound on Santa Teresa trains will be affected.  Please note this will not affect the light rail schedule.

Platform Retrofit project

VTA's older light-rail stations at Santa Clara and First and Second streets are being improved to allow level boarding and exiting between light-rail vehicles and station platforms. Work is expected to take about five months. The reopening is scheduled for May.

Stations at Paseo de San Antonio, St. James and the Convention Center have already been completed.
