Workforce Profile

The downtown business community continues to evolve:

Office

Workforce ProfileTechnology companies increasingly call Downtown San Jose home. Law firms, financial institutions, real estate firms and companies that provide other business services also make up part of the downtown office landscape. Adobe System's and Acer's corporate headquarters are landmarks downtown.

As of the first quarter 2008, office vacancy in Class "A" buildings hovered at about 10.2 percent; overall office vacancy is at 15 percent of the total 8.2 million square feet available. As a result, ground has broken on a new high-rise office building in the RiverPark business complex. Between July 2007-February 2008, almost 500,000 square feet of Class A office space has been leased or sold.

San Jose State University graduates keep Silicon Valley competitive. Its undergraduate engineering program continues to blossom and build a worldwide reputation; Silicon Valley firms employ more graduates from SJSU than from any other university in the nation.

For employees, downtown San Jose has plenty of food and event options. Downtown boasts more than 140 dining options, summer outdoor music concerts and festive holiday ice skating. And from May through December, the Downtown Farmers' Market in San Pedro Square each Friday is the place to stock up on locally grown and organic produce, people watch and bask in downtown's warm climate.
