SJDA Events
The Downtown Association's annual calendar of events starts in May and ends in January of each year.
The Downtown Farmers' Market at San Pedro Square kicks off activities the first Friday of May. Except for major holidays, the market is open each Friday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. through the second week of December (note, no market on Friday, July 4). More than 2,000 people stroll San Pedro Street to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables, have lunch and enjoy the weather and great people-watching.
During the summer, SJDA fills the calendar with free concerts and outdoor movies. Look for Metro's Music in the Other Park at St. James Park on Thursday in June, Metro's Music in the Park at Plaza de Cesar Chavez on Thursday in July, August and the first week of September, and outdoor cinema co-produced by Cinequest at San Pedro Square on Wednesday and St. James Park on Saturday. The Downtown Ice seasonal skating rink opens in November and continues into January in the Circle of Palms, in the heart of holiday activities in downtown San Jose. In just five years, the setting has gained national and international notoriety for its unique look. Only in San Jose can a person don skates and spin and twirl among a circular grove of palm trees.
Downtown San Jose is a one-of-a-kind place with extraordinary events. Other great downtown events, such as South First Fridays, San Jose Jazz Festival and San Jose Mariachi Festival, are supported by the Downtown Association through the popular Downtowner Online weekly e-newsletter, sent to thousands of downtown regulars from throughout the region.
You're invited to find something special to do each day of your stay in downtown San Jose. With its selection of hotels, attractions, parks, shopping and events, it's easy to stay busy.
