Student art adds life to downtown doors

Aspiring artists from four San Jose High Schools have put their works on public view. Their "canvases" are 25 double- and triple-panel doors outside the Fairmont San Jose, Pavilion building, San Jose Repertory Theatre and Camera 12 Cinemas. The art is visible to thousands of passersby on foot and passengers in vehicles.

The Downtown Doors program, now in its eighth year, has grown from four doors in 2003. More than 100 entrants from many San Jose high schools participate each competition.

Judging takes place in March and April. The process to digitize, enlarge and transfer the artwork onto vinyl adhesive decals occurs in April and May.
